Roger still has his strokes but his court movement is just not there.

It’s tough to watch Federer struggle. He still has a very pleasing play style to watch, but the fitness, quickness, speed, hitting, etc just aren’t there anymore. Sucks that everyone has to get old at some point.

I keep thinking "he can still do it" but deep down I know the end is near.

This is not an shock nor an upset. FAA is a great grass player and Fed is 40

I feel like Federer still has the shots, but he doesn’t have the stamina or whatever it is to sustain a high level of play for hours.

What a great experience that must have been for Auger - Aliassime getting to play against his idol Roger Federer! Congratulations on the win Felix!

He’s basically 40 years old. Is it a shock?

My heart tells me Fed might reach the SFs in Wimbledon. My brain tells me that he might be lucky to survive the 1st week. Hoping for the former (fingers crossed)!!!

It truly sucks and it's quite disappointing to read the amount of people on this comment thread wanting or waiting for Federer to retire. If he wants to continue, let him. He doesn't have to prove anything to anyone anymore. He is freaking almost 40 years old. This might be the beginning of the end of his career, but then let's enjoy him while we still can instead of pushing him away. Geez

Federer is just probably waiting to retire after wimbledon. Even tho im a huge fan of him and its an honor to have him play, but it still is hard to watch him get dominated like this

It's tough watching the inevitable...especially, to a champion that's given so much to the game, that we all love, and respect. I think these loses are a tough shock of reality to Federer himself, more-so than the rest of us. I think he was wishfully convinced he still had one more slam left in him, and doesn't want to let go of what's defined him for 20+yrs. That would be a very tough pill for anyone to swallow. I'd love to see him win another, or make a very deep run....but, It wouldn't surprise me to see him exit in the first week of Wimbledon, then retire. I hope when Roger does retire it's in a fitting way, at the proper venue, so we call all pay our respects properly. I was watching the old Federer/Agassi matches recently, and watching Roger in his prime was nothing short of magical. With all due respect to Novak and Rafa, and whatever slam stats they wind up with......there's wasn't, and never will be anyone that gave to the sport the way Roger did. He's the only guy that could play a match, and you wouldn't care what his opponent was doing....you only watched Roger's movement, and touch. It will be a brutally sad day, when he finally says goodbye.

This is Fed's last year lads and lasses. We have enjoyed a lot seeing him, but I know Fed will not play if he can't beat these guys or struggle to beat them.
